The Great Hargeisa Goat Bubble

Just came across this amazing write-up by Julian Gough forwarded by one of my colleagues. I would say it is a humurous ‘Goatification‘ of the current economic run-up.

I would strongly recommend to read it. However, read it at leisure.

I love this story, even in my mind same thing is moving since a long time, but due to lack of words and time, i m not able to post it. But i love the way to describe “Share Market” phenomena, its nothing just a myth. For a couple of time you will feel that you becoming millionaires but its meaningless.

@Jitendra: Yup. Most of the times, it’s just notional.

I’m delighted you enjoyed my story, The Great Hargeisa Goat Bubble, Amit. There has been a sudden surge of interest in it recently! Indeed, the BBC have now commissioned a dramatised version of it, which should be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 next year.

It was originally published in the Financial Times (the first short story they ever published, I believe). Since then, it has popped up, to my surprise and amusement, on various websites (mostly websites promoting international recognition for Somaliland, where the story is set!)

As a result of all this new interest, I’ve finally gotten around to posting it on my own website, at

If you have any comments or observations, please do feel free to make them on my blog, at

The Great Hargeisa Goat Bubble is due to appear in my next novel, due out in late 2009 (or perhaps early 2010 – I’m a slow writer!)

Thanks again Amit for bringing my story to a wider audience. It’s a pleasure to be read with such enthusiasm. Best of luck with your blog,

-Julian

@Julian: Thanks a lot for droping the comment! The best part is that you anticipated things well ahead of the present-day crisis. Just that people have begun to realize all this now.

Looking forward for the dramatised version on BBC and good luck with your new book!

I’ve just heard the Radio 4 dramatisation and enjoyed the story.

A very clever explanation of the goings on in a free market.
